I have a great regard for the Islamic peoples. Whenever Ive been in an Islamic country I aways enjoy visiting the great mosques. On the Lawrence expedition of spring 2010 I spent time in the Umayyed Mosque in Damascus (see photos above). Ive visited great mosques in Cairo, Istanbul and Kairouan in Tunisia. I recommend sitting quietly, in a corner, in the pray halls of the mosques and indulging in peaceful contemplation.

Wow Andrew - that looks amazing. I envy you having the opportunity to go into such beautiful Mosques. I always thought that you had to be a Moslem to be welcomed - perhaps some are happier to have visitors than others.
