Yesterday I visited 'Arundells' in the beautiful Salisbury Cathedral Close. The former home of Sir Edward Heath (d. 2005) former Prime Minister and statesman. I paid £8 to survey the wonderful gardens and to join a guided tour of the house. There is much to see and savour. There is a room devoted to sailing, which Sir Edward took up at the age of 50 years. Also I saw his piano, photos of him with world figures, original political cartoons and paintings and sketches including two Churchill paintings and also a couple of sketches by Augustus John. it is very sad that this unique collection will be broken up and sold off at the end of this year, along with the house which is valued at 5 million pounds. A fitting tribute will be the musical scholarships which will benefit from the funds raised.
